Yob Scores An Even Seven With Pitchfork.

Yob latest album The Great Cessation scored a 7.0 on Pitchfork a couple days ago.

"...Oregon's Yob have carved out a niche of "cosmic doom," which is a descriptor, not a subgenre. Few bands do what YOB do-- marry Black Sabbath's heavy and psychedelic sides. Sabbath did both equally well. But when they wheeled out acoustic guitars and bongo drums, they were just taking a break. YOB keep the pressure up, driving riffs into subterranean depths, yet sending melodies spiraling skyward..."

Segall Roundup.

Damn, it was a good week for Ty Segall. A decent Pitchfork review, local love from the Bay Guardian and SF Weekly, a bunch of live photos posted on Brooklynvegan, confirmation on a Spin future (September's "Buzzcatcher" section) and, and, and a track on a USA Today podcast. U-S-A-Freakin-Today! Links for reading and streaming listed below:

Pitchfork 7.4 review "..With this one-two punch, Segall enters a lo-fi field crowded with artists mining similar influences for inspiration and making similarly compact noise. What distinguishes him from his peers, however, is his ability to instill his songs with a palpable creative zeal, as if the final recordings were less important than the process of performing them..."

Yacht Rolling Stone Review.

Blues Control Review On Dusted.

Our man Doug Mosurock reviewed Blues Control's latest album Local Favor on Dustedmagazine.com today. John Cale & Terry Riley’s Church of Anthrax, Michael Rother, along with Daryl Hall circa 'Private Eyes' are referenced in this review.... undoubtedly a sign of excellence.

"....
opener “Good Morning” is by far their most straightforward offering yet, with unswerving two-beat and cowbell stampeding across enormous reinforced puffball riffs concussing against the delay pedal, while Kurt Vile and Jesse Trbovich zoom all around the foundation on trumpet and sax. Leading into the album’s most docile track, “Rest on Water,” those two additional instruments provide an emotional lift that’s merely been implied on their past works. There’s a lineage of finding worth in the obscure in this track that starts with John Cale & Terry Riley’s Church of Anthrax album, zips through Michael Rother’s early solo efforts, and beelines straight to Blues Control..."

8.2 Current 93 Review Posted On Pichfork.

Pitchfork delves into the dark and light sides of Current 93's latest album Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain.

"...As with most of Current 93's albums, specifically 2006's sprawling, apocalyptic dream-state manifesto, Black Ships Ate the Sky, Aleph is a concept album of connected scenes and themes. At its center stands an exploration of the archetypes we often reduce into binaries-- good and evil, dark and light, God and Satan. Aleph, the murderer, and Adam, Eden's original innocent, personify the warring factions of Tibet's mind. Instead of opposites, he makes them equals, where the existence of one implies the other: "Almost in the beginning was the murderer," two children chant by way of introduction, Tibet reverting to his decades-old trope of letting the most innocent of babes reveal the most difficult of truths..."

Blank Dogs On P-Fork.

The Blank Dogs second full length Under and Under released on In The Red received a impressive 8.1 review on Pitchfork today.

"....The struggle to squeeze Blank Dogs into a genre is important to his project-- maybe not to the artist, but certainly to the listener: meaning can be found in each hint of music history, real or imagined. Post-punk's memorial to blighted industry is fittingly evoked here. The Blank Dogs aesthetic, and that of the larger low-fi movement, gracefully soundtracks our moment, as a kind of comment on technology's rising tide capsizing all boats...."
