Kid Congo Receives Praise From NME.

A couple weeks back Kid Congo And The Pink Monkey Birds latest album Dracula Boots received a 9 out of 10 review from old school media powerhouse NME.

"...You can just imagine the scene – a B-movie called something like Hell On Wheels and directed by Roger Corman, with a motley crew of leather-clad juvenile delinquents roaring off on their motorbikes after causing a rumpus at the prom; The Pink Monkey Birds’ ‘Hitchhiking’ is blasting over the top...."

Eat Skull Track Ranks High By Pitchfork Standards.

The track "Heaven's Stranger" from the Wild and Inside album by Eat Skull was rated 8 out of 10 by Pitchfork today.

" ..."Heaven's Stranger" would likely sound as catchy and infectious were it recorded with perfect clarity, but the fuzziness here fits the frantic pace perfectly-- a blood-rushing tune bathed in bright, fiery red...."

Brainwashed Goes All Out For Blackshaw.

A tremendous review of Jame's Blackshaw's The Glass Bead Game was posted on Brainwashed earlier this week.

"....With all pistons firing, Blackshaw paints a dramatic, but meditative melodic picture with his guitar. His strings are seemingly caught in a never-ending upward movement, each note intent on elevating the song to a higher and more introspective level. In the background, violins and cellos radiate a steady current of calm hums and ghostly utterances. Then, with just a brief pause, the band begins to weave their disparate melodic and harmonic patterns together, further enrichenin the song's lively character. Each member bends their instrument, wringing from it more emotion than was present the moment before......."

".... It's hard not to talk in a superlative manner about this record; it is majestic and deserving of more accolades and praise than I can possibly write."

Neige of Amesoeurs & Alcest Interviewed On

Amesoeurs or Alcest? Neige’s dual personalities are revealed in Blistering interview.

I try to avoid composing consciously for a precise project, but if I feel I really have inspiration for Amesoeurs, most of the time it is coming from my deepest anguishes and frustrations. This was much easier to compose for Amesoeurs than Alcest because it's connected to more ‘human’ feelings and themes. Also because it's always easier to write sad music than the one I play with Alcest."

Flower-Corsano Duo Review On Tiny Mix Tapes.

Flower-Corsano Duo lands 4 out of 5 stars "Eureka!" review on Tiny Mix Tapes.

"....... Mick Flower and Chris Corsano, virtuoso madmen whose contributions to American experimental music are by now legion. Flower, the electro-acoustic sage on “Japan banjo”; Corsano, the shape-shifting genius drummer boy of aggro-jazz, noise rock, and, well, cricketing: to perceive
The Four Aims as the work of just a duo is to gloss over the immense complexity within each pole, the subdivisions and layers of sonic sedition that weave through each man’s playing. It’s a profoundly collaborative product, but even to voice that cripplingly broad claim is to evade the dynamics of contention that enliven and, indeed, define the record. The five pieces and 51 minutes evince a mounting tension whose internal logic begs inspection only after having run its course, interpellating and pummeling the curious into bewildered submission....."

Bike For Three! Sneak Preview Track Posted On XLR8R's Site.

XLR8R has posted "All There is to Say About Love " from Bike For Three's upcoming More Hearts Than Brains album which comes out later this month.

"...Canadian rapper, Buck 65, has teamed up with Belgium-based electronic producer Greetings from Tuskan. The resulting album under their Bike for Three! guise finds these two honing in on their respective musical powers, with sharp rhymes falling over 8-bit-style electronics. Impressive, particularly considering the two never actually met face-to-face during the recording process..." Get track

John Dwyer's latest garage pop outfit, Thee Oh Sees, just nabbed a ragin' 8.0 Pitchfork review for the Help album on In The Red.

With an album this retro-minded, there's a desire to pick apart all its myriad influences, and indeed, I could spend my entire word count investigating nods to the Small Faces, 13th Floor Elevators, the Troggs, and others, but that would be missing the point. The important thing here is that Thee Oh Sees incorporate the oft-referenced Nuggets stuff in a way that feels reverential. With grinding guitars and bah-bah-bah vocals, tracks like "Meat Step Lively" and "Go Meet the Seed" owe everything to this style, but with the punk and new-wave elements also at play, they don't feel trite or plagiarized. Even if they did, these guys sound so much more authentic than almost anyone else doing this kind of thing that one wonders if it would matter...."
