Getting Up Close and Personal With Matteah Baim.
There's a great interview with Matteah Baim posted on The Naturalismo.com right now. Here's a little taster:
"...I try my best to let the songs write themselves. There are times I’m more successful at this then others. I work with a lot of notebooks and demos before I go into the studio to map out the pieces. Fluidity and organization seem to go hand in hand when it comes to recording. At times, you have to throw some of those maps away but for whatever reason they have to be there to throw out...."

There's No Shame In Best New Music.
The Woods new album Songs Of Shame on Shrimper triumphs with an 8.3 best new music on Pitchfork today!
Woods' latest album, Songs of Shame, is their most cohesive collection, and it's not only quickly lifted them to front of the Woodsist crew but positioned them to be the group that appeals to those who've previously been uninterested in the 2008-09 crop of lo-fi. As with the best lo-fi albums, Songs of Shame performs some sleight-of-hand by sounding private and homespun yet also not just accessible but immediately lovable. Along the way, Woods can evoke any number of their lo-fi ancestors, from early Guided by Voices to the murkier depths of the Siltbreeze or Flying Nun back catalogs, but they're still able to retain their own immediately recognizable off-kilter character. Read the full review here.

Wooden Shjips' 7.2 Review On Pitchfork.
References to Alan Vega, Krautrock, Terry Riley, even Devo. The Shjips scored a right on P-fork review.
".........Dos goes a long way towards re-igniting Wooden Shjips' fire. Sonically, its five songs aren't as exploding or abrasive as earlier work-- in fact, this is the smoothest-sounding Shjips record so far. But taut energy courses through most of the album's 38 minutes. Bassist Dusty Jermier sticks to variations on the bouncing line he used to fuel the band's first insta-classic, "Shrinking Moon For You". His chugging loops are like a whip-crack, revving the band through their 1960s-licking garage tunes with the momentum of a hurtling 18-wheeler...." Read full review here.

Papercuts 'You Can Have What You Want' NPR's Song Of The Day.
Papercuts: A Pop Throwback, Oozing Heartache
By Michael Katzif
NPR.org, April 9, 2009 - Papercuts' Jason Robert Quever has a thing for the music of the '60s: His focused pop nuggets exude feel-good charm and a touch of sadness, channeling the spirit of The Zombies and The Byrds along the way. Or at least they used to. If 2007's Can't Go Back was the singer-songwriter's nod to the jangly pop of the early '60s, then its new follow-up, You Can Have What You Want, represents a step toward the looser, more psychedelic rock that came later in the decade..... read full post here.
