Press Release:
YACHT is developing a comedy TV show for Amazon called SUPPORT, plus 10th anniversary show announced
Two big announcements from Team YACHT today: First of all, YACHT is turning ten years old! To celebrate, YACHT has announced a 10th Anniversary celebration on Dec. 8 in Los Angeles at the Echoplex. The performance will feature material from all eras and line-ups of the band, with special guests, surprises and prizes and party favors for the audience! Secondly, the members of YACHT are pleased to announce they are currently developing a comedy show for Amazon Studios, called Support. Expect to see the pilot online early next year.
Official press release from Amazon Studios announcing Support:
Sometimes, what happens behind the scenes can be even more entertaining than what happens in the spotlight. That's the idea behind a new series added to the Amazon Studios Development Slate: Support, about a band's life on the road.
The creators of Support are all members of a band called YACHT, who are signed to LCD Soundsystem's label, DFA. And yes, they drew from their own experiences - in dozens of different kinds of bands - to create their show:
"Viewing the awkward, banal (and sometimes even degrading) realities inherent to playing in a band through the lens of comedy has helped us cope with how weird our lives consistently are."
More about Support:
Writers: Jona Bechtolt, Jeffrey Brodsky, Claire Evans, Rob Kieswetter (they are the band YACHT)
Logline: An ensemble comedy about life on the rock 'n' roll road, as seen through the eyes of its least glamorous participants: the opening band.
Why Amazon optioned it: The script is funny, has heart, and is about as authentic of a perspective as you can get on the music industry. It's a fascinating look backstage and at the lives of the bands we look up to on stage. These are characters we care about and root for and want to see succeed.
>From the writers: "For the past three years, we've imagined our lives on the road as a TV show. In many ways, a tour is a perfect analogue to an episodic series: there's a central cast of characters, recurring locations, absurd scenarios, and new conflicts to resolve every day. There are just too many stranger-than-fiction moments that we've wanted to share, but haven't had the time or outlet to do so. We've been keeping notes of every ridiculous interaction and story in a shared document and we can't wait to unearth them all through the show."
